How to Improve Your SEO Strategy

If you market online, it is nearly inevitable that you have heard the term SEO, or search engine optimization, thrown around. You know you need to use it, but perhaps you are not sure how to implement it. You may not even quite understand what it is or why exactly you need it! If this sounds like you, let’s start with the basics. SEO is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine results.

How? With a blog! Blogging helps boost SEO quality by positioning your website as a constantly updated, relevant answer to questions entered into a search engine.  Blog posts that specifically use a variety of on-page SEO tactics can give you more opportunities to rank in search engines and get customers to visit your site.

Choose an Evergreen Topic

Like the tree, an evergreen topic is one that stays relevant all year-round or for a long time. Look at the history of search trends to find topics that have steady and high interest over time. If you run a gym, for example, your topic might be something like getting in shape or losing weight. The method may change, but this is something people have had and likely will continue to have an interest in for years, which makes this a great evergreen topic that will continue to yield results long after you have posted your content.

Use Keywords

Once you have your evergreen topic, you need to back up your findings by researching the keywords. Keywords are the terms that people actually type into the search engine. Make sure your keyword truly has a high search volume. Then you can test more niche search terms based on your primary keyword, called long-tail keywords. The keyword “lose weight” could become “how to lose weight and keep it off” or “lose weight before the summer.”

Craft a Click-Worthy Headline

With those short online attention spans, you may only have a second or two to catch your audience’s attention. A headline is the first thing a user will see after they search, so yours needs to jump out at them enough to warrant a click. Often, it is a good idea to fit your primary keyword into your headline. There are tools online that you can use to analyze the emotional appeal of your headline.

You need to employ these search engine tactics because it is not enough to simply be searchable. If you have online content, it does not matter how quality it is; no one is going to find it if it is on page 10 (or even page 2) of the search results. We employ a variety of tactics that can increase your SEO (you clicked on this link didn’t you?), let us help!
