FrenCH QUArter FestIVAl
A Record Breaking French Quarter
Festival
732,000 people filled the
French Quarter for the Festival, which
explains how we went through over 40,000
pounds of Louisiana crawfish, and 5,000
links of our Crawfish Boil Smoked Boudin
on a Bun. Our friends at Abita Beer went
through 905 kegs. Clearly crawfish and
boudin make festival-goers thirsty!
The Streak Is Broken
New Orleans
native Adrian “The Rabbit” Morgan
put down 2.7 pounds of crawfish to beat
four-peat winner Sonya “The Black
Widow” Thomas and take home Rouses
2014 World Championship Crawfish
Contest title. Cheered on by his cohorts at
Domenica (one of my favorite restaurants),
pastry chef Adrian swallowed 2.7 pounds
of crawfish, just a few ounces more than
the 100-pound Black Widow, winner of
scores of Competitive Eating Challenges.
Our contest, which is sanctioned by Major
League Eating and the International
Federation of Competitive Eaters, also
featured Nasty Nate, a tamale-eating
champion; New Orleans native Crazy Legs
Conti, who came in third; Natalie, The
Cajun Nurse, fromMandeville; and another
New Orleans chef, Aaron Burgau of Patois
and TrüBurger, who was felled by a squirt
of crawfish juice to the eye. Burgau vows to
return next year with sunglasses in place.
