FAMILY LETTER
The More The Merrier!
Our Rouses family grew again this year. We added new team members in all of our
stores; new local partners like Tommy’s Seafood in St. Bernard; five new locations in
Alabama, a new location in Gretna; a first-of-its kind concept market in Lafayette.
This is our third store in Acadiana
.
Best of all, without a doubt, are the
new children, grandchildren, nieces
and nephews who were born into our
family in 2014. They join my other
grandchildren and great niece as our
next generation of family grocers.
Food is at the heart of every celebration,
and our family is no different. For
Thanksgiving, my brother-in-law,
Tim, makes my father’s rice and oyster
dressing; my sister-in-law, Karen, makes
a cornbread one. I make casseroles and
pies with the squash and pumpkins
we raise on our farm in Mississippi,
and this year, I will also be trying my
hand at a New Orleans favorite that my
friend Ti Martin says is due a revival:
oyster patties. We sell nearly 20,000
pounds of shucked Louisiana oysters
for Thanksgiving alone — and 200,000
frozen turkeys.
Thanksgiving is late this year, which means we go straight into the Christmas
season, then New Year’s Eve. We have a lot on our menu at Rouses for 2015,
beginning with black-eyed peas and cabbage on New Year’s Day, one of those local
traditions that makes where we live so great. We’re celebrating our 55
th
anniversary
next year, and expanding into the Baton Rouge area with a new store in Denham
Springs. Mardi Gras is early this year, and we have more than 300,000 king cakes
to bake.
I can’t wait for you to see what else we have in store in 2015.

Help Stop Hunger At Home
Second Harvest, Feeding America and other local food banks rely on donations
from people just like you. We make it easy to give at the grocery store. Just scan a
coupon at any Rouses register to add to your bill, or purchase a pre–packed bag of
canned goods for $10, which we will deliver for you. You can help support local food
banks all year long at Rouses, but your generous contribution of non-perishable
food or money is especially welcome during the holiday season.
