MY

ROUSES

EVERYDAY

MARCH | APRIL 2015

louisiana strawberries

Grown Just for Rouses!

Our local farmer-partners deliver ripe and

ready-to-eat strawberries straight to our

stores.

Storage:

You can store strawberries

in their container, but for maximum shelf

life, remove them from their container

(don’t wash them until you’re ready to

eat them), place on a paper towel and

return them to the container. Better yet,

store them in a tightly covered piece of

Tupperware. Fresh, ripe strawberries will

keep, tightly covered, for at least three

days.

Freezing:

Strawberries will last up

to six months in the freezer. Wash, dry,

cut off their caps, place on a cookie sheet,

and freeze, uncovered. Transfer frozen

strawberries to a Ziploc bag (squeeze out

the air before zipping).

Also local:

Louisiana sweet potatoes,

pecans, cabbage and greens.

Rouses is a sponsor of the 44

th

Annual

Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival, April

10th through 12

th

in Memorial Park.

There's food, games, contests and live

music including Bag of Donuts and

are original Washington Navel, some as old as 100, and the oranges are sweet and tangy, with a

wonderful flavor.

refrigerate in a plastic bag or in your vegetable crisper.

longer shelf life than red, orange

and yellow ones.

unwashed, whole bell peppers in a

plastic bag. Store in the vegetable

drawer of your refrigerator for up

to five days.Wash before using.

• Green Beans

in a plastic bag in your vegetable

drawer for up to one week. Add a

strip of paper towel to the bag to

absorb moisture.
