For me it‘s the Christmas boat parades down the bayou
and in Mississippi. A tree is one thing, but a shrimp boat
strung with Christmas lights? Now that’s local.

Years ago, we took all the neighbors to New Orleans to see the lights and ice skate
at Celebration in the Oaks. We rented a school bus because it was my son Matt's
favorite mode of transportation at the time.We checked into the hotel, got directions,
then headed to City Park. It was a great time, and after ice skating, we all piled back
in the bus to go see the light display at Al Copeland’s House. My husband Tommy had
specific directions from the hotel concierge. When we pulled up to Copeland’s – the
restaurant, not the house – all we could do was laugh. Tommy drove us back to the
hotel and the kids played video games in the arcade all night.
