Summertime Milk Punch
Though it gets plenty of play in the classic
cocktails, the brown liquor group gets short
shift when it enters the blender arena, where
the lighter spirits (rum, tequila, vodka) tend
to rule. This hot-weather adaptation of a
New Orleans holiday classic teams the kick
of a sweeter whiskey (bourbon) with just
the right amount of richness from a light
cream (half-and-half ) base. It’s a milkshake
for whiskey drinkers, and better than a
drippy cone any day.

1½-2 teaspoons vanilla extract
½-¾ blender of ice or to proper texture

Dreamsicle
Because of its pronounced herbal flavors
— primarily of juniper berries — gin
also tends to be underrepresented in the
frozen group. The Dreamsicle balances
the strong flavors of the famous martini
base with sugary citrus and the addition of
another summer staple — ice cream. Fans
of the storied Ramos Gin Fizz will notice a
distinct family resemblence here — with ice
cream replacing the egg white for a creamy
rather than foamy texture.
